John Hanssen is an Associate General Counsel and the Regional Director for DuPont’s Legal organization in Asia Pacific. He is based in Hong Kong, and with a team of legal professionals throughout Asia Pacific, advises DuPont’s diverse chemical, life sciences and materials businesses in the region.
He has degrees in Science (1982, University of Sydney) and Law (1988, University of Technology, Sydney). Prior to his admission as a solicitor in 1988 (NSW, Australia), John worked for a number of years as a research scientist and as a regulatory affairs specialist in the agrichemicals industry. From 1988 to 1990, he worked as a solicitor in the corporate, commercial and litigation departments of a large Australian law firm.
From 1991 to 1998, he had legal oversight for DuPont’s operations in Australia, New Zealand and S.E. Asia. During that period he also served as the managing director for a public/private research and development joint venture in Australia. From 1999 to 2003, he worked in the USA, initially in DuPont’s Mergers and Acquisitions group, and subsequently, as counsel for DuPont’s Engineering Polymers and Fluoropolymers business units.
