The goal of continuous improvement is an important part of the DuPont Legal Model, and that’s why from the earliest days of this program we’ve provided financial rewards to firms that exemplify the goals and best practices of the Legal Model. But in 1996 we formalized the rewards and incentives process by implementing the “Challenge Awards” — monetary awards that recognize Primary Law Firms (PLFs) and Service Providers for extraordinary contributions and accomplishments that have advanced the objectives of the DuPont Legal Model.

Over the years, PLFs and Service Providers have received Challenge Awards for a variety of accomplishments, including:

Diligently and successfully pursuing DuPont’s legal rights as a plaintiff;
Collaborating with other PLFs and Service Providers to serve DuPont’s interests;
Volunteering time and resources to develop and maintain core programs of the Legal Model, such as Early Case Assessment and the advancement of minority attorneys;
Referring non-DuPont matters to other PLFs and Service Providers; and
Incorporating technology into the practice of law.

To date, this unique program has brought about a number of important benefits. Our PLFs and Service Providers have received recognition and monetary awards, which help their bottom lines. And DuPont Legal has benefitted because our PLFs and Service Providers now have a tangible incentive to embrace the core values and practices of the Legal Model and strive to improve efficiency and case outcomes for our business clients.
