DuPont Legal leaders wanted to fundamentally change the way outside legal service suppliers meet the needs of corporate legal departments. These DuPont leaders began talking to other major corporations about creating a “Consortium” of legal departments to consider a new collective approach to leveraging process, technology and purchasing power. This Legal Solutions Network consists of cutting-edge legal departments from eight corporations.
The Legal Solutions Network members wanted to determine what types of business ventures would succeed through the alignment and collaboration of their legal functions.
They decided on three objectives:
- Development of “communities of practice” built around knowledge sharing and using sophisticated online tools.
- Creating a business structure and a process for working together that meets the needs of the Legal Solutions Network and one that complies in all respects with every applicable rule of law and ethics.
- Collaborating to share best practices and leverage purchasing power to acquire certain legal services.
The Legal Solutions Network is continuing to develop strategies to leverage outside legal services.
